Qualifying for the 2025 Indianapolis 500 got underway on Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Alex Palou posted the fastest time in qualifying with a speed of 233.043 mph, narrowly edging out Scott McLaughlin (233.013 mph) and Josef Newgarden (233.004 mph).
Jacob Abel, a Louisville native, was bumped by his own teammate on Sunday. Then penalties were handed to Josef Newgarden, Will Power and Penske and others called for Abel to run in the 500.
Both Josef Newgarden and Will Power will start Sunday's Indianapolis 500 at the back of the grid. Reactions from the paddock began with Team Penske again under fire.
Nolan Siegel. Driving for the No. 18 for Dale Coyne Racing, Siegel had one last chance to qualify for his first Indianapolis 500. But if the moment was not tense enough, an incident from earlier in the week only heightened the tension.
Twelve drivers have a chance at the pole position on Sunday, and four others are still trying to earn a spot in the race.
The paddock remains discontent with Roger Penske's roles in the IndyCar series after another scandal bringing conflict of interest concerns into full view.
