Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell understood the frustration of his team's fans following a 119-111 overtime loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Rookie Kon Knueppel scored 29 points, Brandon Miller added 25 and the Charlotte Hornets shut out Cleveland in overtime on their way to a rare road victory, 119-111 over the Cavaliers on Sunday.
During their loss to the Hornets, the home fans could be heard loudly booing, and voicing their displeasure with the team’s performance. Star guard Donovan Mitchell, who scored just 17 points on 6-24 shooting in the loss, says he doesn’t blame the fans for reacting as such.
Charlotte was once again without star guard LaMelo Ball.
Another standout performance from Kon Knueppel in the win.
The team’s star guard Donovan Mitchell shouldered most of the blame for the loss when speaking with the media after the game, saying simply, “put this one on me.” Mitchell scored 17 points on just 6-24 shooting from the floor and 1-11 from three-point range while being a team-worst -12.
Both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Hornets may be without multiple key players in Sunday afternoon's matchup.
