Emma Raducanu discovered what it takes to be a real clay-court animal as Coco Gauff eliminated her from Rome by a chastening scoreline: 6-1, 6-2.

Emma Raducanu exited the Italian Open on Monday afternoon after she was convincingly beaten and outclassed by Coco Gauff, winning three games in a match which lasted just 79 minutes.

Coco Gauff ended Emma Raducanu’s run at the Italian Open as the World No 3 reached the quarter-finals with a commanding 6-1 6-2 victory in Rome. Raducanu and Gauff were meeting for just the second time and although the British player is a year older at 22,
