Air Canada cancelled hundreds of flights Saturday as it began shutting down operations in response to a strike by flight attendants -- triggering summer travel chaos for its 130,000 daily passengers.

The union representing 10,000 Air Canada flight attendants said it will challenge an order to return to work and remain on strike.

The decision by the union representing the 10,000 workers means that travel chaos will most likely continue for at least a second day.
