One of President Donald Trump's first moves when he returned to the Oval Office earlier this year was to direct federal government departments to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Trump had signed an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico, but it carries authority only within the US.

The Republican-led House passed a bill Thursday that would rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America and direct federal agencies to update their documents and maps to incorporate the new name.
