James Wood homered and drove in four runs Monday night as the visiting Washington Nationals topped the San Diego Padres 10-6. Wood clinched Washington's first win over San Diego since June 2023 with a towering three-run homer off the right field foul pole in the top of the eighth to make it 9-3.

This could've been James Wood's stage every night. The 6-foot-7 slugger was a San Diego Padres farmhand. But in 2022, he was part of a package also including CJ Abrams and MacKenzie Gore that went to the Washington Nationals for Juan Soto. On Monday night, Wood showed the San Diego faithful what they were missing.
