James Wood had a three-run homer among his three hits, drove in four and scored three times for the Washington Nationals, who beat the San Diego Padres 10-6.

The paying customers showed up en masse again Monday, enough of them to make the gathering at Petco Park the 33rd sellout among the 37 home games the Padres have played this season. And the boos that rained down after Josh Bell hit a single that drove in the Nationals’ sixth run were arguably louder than any heard at Petco Park this season.

James Wood homered and drove in four runs Monday night as the visiting Washington Nationals topped the San Diego Padres 10-6. Wood clinched Washington's first win over San Diego since June 2023 with a towering three-run homer off the right field foul pole in the top of the eighth to make it 9-3.
