Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has ordered all United States and Minnesota flags to fly at half-staff at all state buildings effective immediately, following what officials are calling the "politically motivated" shootings of DFL Rep.

Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed in a targeted shooting. Sen. John Hoffman, DFL-Champlin, and his wife were also shot.

Lawmakers and officials, both local and national, are issuing statements expressing shock and outrage over the shooting deaths​ of Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman​ and her husband.

Melissa Hortman, 55, and her husband, Mark Hortman, 58, both died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Hennepin Country medical examiner. Melissa Hortman was pronounced dead at her home while Mark Hortman died at North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale.
