Urban Meyer rules out coaching comeback despite multiple high-profile college football job openings
Urban Meyer said he has "no desire" to return to coaching despite major college football openings at Penn State, LSU and Florida this season.
Urban Meyer has not coached in college football since he retired from coaching Ohio State in 2018. Meyer had a brief stint in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021, but lasted 13 games before being fired after going 2-11.
Ohio State took to X to remind fans that Meyer was announced as a part of the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame class back in January, joining notable names such as former Alabama coach Nick Saban, former Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Vick and former Texas Southern defensive lineman Michael Strahan.

Urban Meyer, appearing on "Big Noon Kickoff" in Columbus before the Ohio State–Penn State game, said he “can’t believe” there are currently three major college football head coaching vacancies, each carrying national championship expectations.
In an interview with WSYX ABC 6's Kellyanne Stitts, the former UF head coach said he did not "have the desire" to return to the sidelines as a head coach. Meyer, who had stints at Ohio State and with the Jacksonville Jaguars after his time with the Gators, has not coached since 2021 and has not coached in the college ranks since 2018.
