Fanning will play Effie Trinket in the upcoming Hunger Games prequel film Sunrise on the Reaping, as confirmed on May 20. Elizabeth Banks played the fashionista in the original film trilogy, which saw her go from District 12 escort who has the honor of announcing the names of the children who will be killed to a rebel against the Capitol.

In "Sunrise on the Reaping," Effie serves as Haymitch Abernathy's stylist for the 50th annual Hunger Games, which he ends up winning. Fanning also shared the news on Instagram and re-shared a post from Banks, who congratulated her.

The formidable leader of Panem has previously been portrayed by Donald Sutherland in the original four films, and in his younger years by Tom Blyth in 2023’s “A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” Fiennes’ Snow will fall between the two, 40 years after the events of “Songbirds” and 24 years before Katniss Everdeen’s time in the arena.
