Per Christopher Smith, Sox manager Alex Cora has revealed that Marcelo Mayer is going through with season-ending surgery to correct his wrist. Mayer previously got a cortisone shot to try and get back this season, but it looks like it didn’t work out.

BOSTON (AP) — Boston Red Sox infielder Marcelo Mayer said Sunday that he’ll have season-ending surgery on his right wrist. The 22-year-old Mayer injured the wrist in late July, got an injection to try and come back, but decided to have surgery. He said he has a tear that hadn’t improved with the anti-inflammatory injection.

Manager Alex Cora revealed Sunday that Mayer will miss the rest of the season with a wrist injury that requires surgery, per Christopher Smith of Mass Live. It is expected to be a three-month recovery period, meaning he will at least be available for spring training ahead of the 2026 campaign.
