Even your Legos are going through a technological revolution. The toy company unveiled its “most significant evolution” in 50 years — the Lego Smart Brick, a standard 2×4 Lego brick with a tiny computer packed inside.

Lego is launching a first-of-its-kind “smart brick”, which the Danish toy maker has described as its “biggest innovation” in decades. The new brick looks and clicks into place like a regular one but its advanced electronics sense other smart bricks and minifigures and respond with real-time audio or light effects.

The LEGO Group says it will introduce a new “SMART Play" system in 2026 designed to make brick-built creations respond to how children move, hold and imagine with their toys.

Lego’s Smart Bricks differ from earlier tech-enabled Lego products by using wireless charging pads (avoiding disposable batteries) and boasting batteries that will still perform after years of inactivity.
