North Texas boatraces UAB 53-24, controls American destiny
North Texas was perhaps Saturday’s most triumphant winner in terms of College Football Playoff prospects, as the Mean Green decimated UAB 53-24, hours after Navy ejected South Florida from the conference’s driver’s seat — making the path to the American title run through Denton, for now.
The UConn football team responded to last week’s OT loss with an all-around dominant game against UAB to clinch bowl eligibility for the second year in a row.
For a third straight year, UAB’s season will end in November. The Blazers’ chances of reaching a bowl were officially buried Saturday in a blowout loss to North Texas inside Protective Stadium.

UAB is opening next season in Big Ten country. The football program announced Thursday afternoon that it will kick off next year’s campaign with a trip to Illinois on Sept. 5. UAB also announced it will be hosting Samford inside Protective Stadium in both the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
