New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is expected to announce Thursday that she will not use her executive powers to remove Mayor Eric Adams from office at least for now, two sources briefed on the decision told CNN.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is in a battle for his political future. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who has the power to remove Adams, met with city leaders Tuesday to determine whether he should remain in office.

In this case that would mean the inability committee would include Corporation Counsel Muriel Goode-Trufant, Lander, Speaker Adams and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards. The deputy mayor who would serve is unclear, especially with four of them on their way out of the Adams administration.

As Ms. Hochul was preparing for her meetings Tuesday morning, Judge Dale Ho, who is presiding over the Adams corruption, campaign finance, and bribery case, called a Wednesday afternoon hearing — his first move as he weighs whether to comply with the Trump administration order to drop the charges against Mr. Adams “without prejudice.”
