Earlier this week, President Donald Trump issued a major disaster declaration for recovery efforts in the Ruidoso area following deadly flooding July 8 when a storm caused the Rio Ruidoso to swell over 20 feet and sweep away several RVs and at least one house.
Flash flooding from torrential rain hit Ruidoso, New Mexico, killing at least three people and prompting dozens of rescues, officials said. A house was seen being carried downstream Tuesday by the fast-moving water a year after the same area was devastated by two wildfires.
The flash flood warning is in effect until 3:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 24, and includes Ruidoso, Ruidoso Downs and Hollywood, New Mexico.
Shortly after the largest wildfire in New Mexico history, a flash flood in July 2022 sent water raging through burn-scarred Tecolote Creek in rural San Miguel County.
