They assert that LG’s linear compressors do not live up to the promised durability, despite the company’s claims of a 10-year warranty and 20-year lifespan.

The federal fraud lawsuit alleges that a critical part called the linear compressor, found in many LG and Kenmore refrigerators, frequently breaks down years before its advertised lifespan is up.

LG literature says the linear compressor uses less energy and makes less noise than other compressors. The company offers a 10-year warranty and boasts online of 20-year durability.

According to the class-action suit, the issues with LG’s refrigerators stem primarily from a problem with the linear compressor that the company uses.

"The good news is that LG refrigerators come with a five-year labor and 10-year limited warranty on the linear compressor," its spokesperson previously said.
