Ursula von der Leyen casts Europe as an economic heavyweight that can forge new alliances during another “America First” presidency.

EU trade chief Maroš Šefčovič extended an olive branch to Washington on Wednesday, two days after the U.S. president was sworn in. He told POLITICO that Brussels was ready to talk with the new Washington administration — despite the repeated threats that Trump has made to hit the 27-nation bloc with tariffs.

“The Paris Agreement continues to be the best hope for all humanity. So Europe will stay the course, and keep working with all nations that want to protect nature and stop global warming,” the European Union’s top executive said in a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Ursula von der Leyen, is trying to arrange a meeting with US President-elect Donald Trump, but so far to no avail. This was announced at a press conference in Brussels by EC spokeswoman Paula Pinho.
