MINNEAPOLIS -- Kevin Garnett will finally have his No. 21 formally retired by the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves announced on Thursday they've hired the Hall of Fame member and franchise icon as a team ambassador, with a plan to honor Garnett in a jersey-raising ceremony at Target Center on a future date.

The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced that franchise legend and Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett has officially joined the organization as Team Ambassador, marking a historic reunion between the team and its most iconic player.

Garnett, who had a strained relationship with former owner Glen Taylor, will serve in an ambassador role for the franchise.

Garnett will work with the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx in a similar capacity. It's a significant step towards mending relations between Timberwolves and Garnett, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, after things soured between the two sides following his decision to step away from playing basketball in 2016.
