A 13-year-old girl has died after being recovered from the waters of a beach in New Jersey. Belmar Water Rescue entered the water in an attempt to locate the missing teenager, according to the police. Around an hour later, she was found “unresponsive in the water” off Seventh Avenue beach.

When officers arrived at the Eighth Avenue beach, police said one person was out of the water, but a 13-year-old was still missing. Crews searched the water for nearly an hour, police said. Around 7:30 p.m., police said crews found the 13-year-old in the water off the Seventh Avenue beach. The teenager was unresponsive.

A 13-year-old girl died Friday night after going missing in the ocean at a Jersey Shore beach. Police in Belmar responded to the 8th Avenue beach shortly after 6:30 p.m. after receiving several 911 calls about “a swimmer in distress,” Belmar Police Chief Tina Scott said in a news release.
