A 38-year-old man who previously served time in prison for aggravated robbery has been charged with capital murder in Kansas in connection with the fatal shooting of a sheriff’s deputy in Kansas City,

The shooting killed 34-year-old Elijah Ming, a nearly nine-year veteran of the Wyandotte County Sherrif’s Office on Saturday.

Law enforcement officials said the killing of Elijah Ming, 34, was another example in the spate of domestic violence calls and shootings this summer. If convicted, Shawn Harris, 38, faces a life sentence or the death penalty.
