Shigemi Fukahori, who survived the 1945 Nagasaki atomic bombing and devoted his life to advocating for peace and campaigning against nuclear weapons, has died.

Shigemi Fukahori, a Japanese Catholic who survived the atomic bombing of Nagasaki in 1945 and who was an advocate for peace late in his life, died on Friday, Jan. 3, at age 93. Fukahori died at a hospital in Nagasaki, according to the Urakami Cathedral located in that city. The AP reported on his death on Sunday.

Mr Fukahori was only 14 when the US dropped the bomb on the Japanese city, killing tens of thousands of people.

Shigemi Fukahori - who devoted his life to advocating for peace after surviving the bombing - died of old age, according to his church.
