Sudan's government on Friday denied US allegations that it had used chemical weapons in the country's bloody civil war last year, a day after Washington said it would impose sanctions. Information Minister Khalid al-Aiser called the accusations "nothing but political blackmail and a deliberate falsification of the facts".

These sanctions are expected to go into effect upon publication in the Federal Register, anticipated on or around June 6, 2025.

The United States has decided to impose sanctions on Sudan after reaching the conclusion that the African country's government used chemical weapons during the ongoing conflict with paramilitary forces in 2024, the State Department said on Thursday.
