Alleged Bondi Beach gunman to be charged soon, Australia PM says, as funerals of victims begin
By Scott Murdoch and Renju Jose SYDNEY, Dec 17 (Reuters) - One of two men suspected of carrying out Australia's deadliest mass shooting in three decades will be charged later on Wednesday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said,
Australia's prime minister said the suspects in the shooting at the Hanukkah event were “motivated by Islamic State ideology.” They had traveled to the Philippines before the attack, officials said.
The attack occurred on Bondi Beach during a Hanukkah celebration.
People of all ages had been looking forward to celebrating — especially this year, as a ceasefire in Gaza has held since October and all but one of the hostages taken by Hamas-led militants have been returned.
