Say a little prayer for Celine Song, the Past Lives and Materialists writer-director. Per Collider, Sony has hired Song to write a sequel to Julia Roberts’ 1997 rom-com hit, My Best Friend’s Wedding.

Wedding bells may be ringing for Celine Song, who has been tapped to write a sequel to Sony’s My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The project is in early development, and at this stage, Song is attached to write, but not direct, and would not necessarily be her next project.

Collider first reported the project. “My Best Friend’s Wedding” sequel is in early development at Sony Pictures. Song is not in talks to direct, though. IndieWire has reached out to Sony for comment.
