Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger has picked up his $27.5 million option for the 2025 season, team sources confirmed to The Athletic. Bellinger’s decision to opt into the second year of a potential three-year deal comes as a slight surprise based on the whispers heard near the end of the season.

Cody Bellinger officially opted in to the 2025 season with the Chicago Cubs. However, that does create a crowded outfield room for Chicago. With that said, Bellinger could become a trade target this offseason as teams look to bolster their outfield via trade rather than free agency.

The Chicago Cubs appear to be more focused on sending talent away rather than bringing it in if the recent Cody Bellinger trade rumors are to be believed, and that's an uncomfortably familiar spot for manager Craig Counsell.
