If it’s any consolation, and it probably isn’t, Guardians fans now know that teams were pursuing closer Emmanuel Clase before MLB put him on paid leave on Monday while he’s being investigated for gambling.

"Per an agreement with the MLBPA, Cleveland Guardians pitcher Emmanuel Clase has been placed on non-disciplinary paid leave through games on August 31st while MLB continues its sports betting investigation," MLB said in its statement. "We will not comment further until the investigation has been completed."

Emmanuel Clase will be sidelined for at least a month, along with Luis Ortiz. Does that change how the Guardians approach the MLB trade deadline?
