The U.K. economy showed a surprise contraction in September and only marginal growth in the third quarter, initial figures showed Friday.

Growth was subdued across most industries during the three months, the Office for National Statistics says.

The UK economy barely grew between July and September, with uncertainty about the Budget being blamed for the weak growth. The economy slowed over the three-month period, growing by just 0.1%, and shrank during September itself.
