Gary Lineker to leave BBC Sport role following final episode of Match of the Day
Gary Lineker will leave his presenting role following the conclusion of Match of the Day for the 2024/25 season. He will not be part of the BBC’s coverage of the 2026 World Cup or next season’s FA Cup coverage. Tim Davie, BBC Director-General, said:
I fear for future of Match of the Day without Gary Lineker
It is such a pity that Gary Lineker is leaving the BBC in this manner. His comments outside of sport have brought the world tumbling down on him and, clearly, it was a nonsense for him to have shared what is deemed to be an anti-Semitic message.
