Each summer, skywatchers around the world look forward to the famous Perseid meteor shower, but often overlook four lesser showers that peak between July 29 and Aug. 16.

On July 17, the Perseid meteor shower begins just as the last quarter moon rises, but its peak night in August will be marred by moonlight.

Peaking on the same day in July are the Alpha Capricornids and Southern delta Aquariids meteor showers.
