It might not quite reach the same level of insanity as the NFC Championship win over the Green Bay Packers, but the Seattle Seahawks beat the Los Angeles Rams 38-37 in OT in one of the wildest games ever at Lumen Field on Thursday night.
Erasing a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter, Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold found tight end AJ Barner for a 26-yard touchdown with just 6:23 left in the game. That made it 30-28, but Seattle still needed the ensuing two-point try to tie it up.
Darnold did just that, hitting a wide-open Eric Saubert for the 2-point conversion, and the Seahawks overcame a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit to stun the Rams 38-37 on Thursday night for a one-game lead in the NFC West.
It wasn't just the Seahawks celebrating Thursday's night win. The 49ers now have a path to the NFC West title, too.
The Seattle Seahawks were down 30-14 to the Los Angeles Rams with their home fans booing with fewer than 10 minutes remaining after Sam Darnold threw his second ugly interception that seemingly all but ended their NFC West chances.
The Seahawks took an early 7-0 lead. After the defense forced a turnover on downs, the hosts went 61 yards on five plays, the biggest one being a 46-yard screen pass to Kenneth Walker III. Zach Charbonnet finished the drive with a 4-yard run up the middle.
Seattle’s rally from a 30-14 deficit started with a 58-yard, touchdown punt return by wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, followed by a Sam Darnold-to-Cooper Kupp 2-point pass with 8:03 left in the fourth quarter. Darnold got the Seahawks within two with a 26-yard touchdown pass to tight end AJ Barner 1:40 later.
