As the Thunder gathered on stage, OKC Mayor David Holt snuck in a hot take in his rally speech that forced everybody to blink twice to make sure they heard right. He called Shai Gilgeous-Alexander the greatest Thunder player ever. The opinion exceeded the outside temperatures in pure heat, which had several attendants get IVs near EMTs.

At a gathering at a local park near Paycom Center, OKC Mayor David Holt took to the stage to rally the crowd. He concluded his speech by announcing the entire Thunder roster plus Clay Bennett, Sam Presti and Mark Daigneault will have their own designated holiday from June 30 to July 30.

The Thunder have won their first title in franchise history. Of course, the team moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City in 2008, and they won a title as the SuperSonics back in 1979, but they left their history in the Pacific northwest with the move so this is technically the first championship in Thunder history.
