Lee had initially proposed to sell between 2.2 million to 3.3 million acres of public land in Oregon, Washington and nine other Western states. He later revised the provision to reduce the amount of viable land to sell to 600,000 to 1.2 million acres after the Senate’s parliamentarian ruling would have excluded it.

Senator Mike Lee, Republican of Utah, said he would withdraw his proposal after it faced intense intraparty opposition.
