Multiple people were killed when a plane crashed at the Statesville Regional Airport in rural North Carolina on Thursday morning, erupting into a large fire on the runway, according to the Associated Press.

A plane believed to be carrying former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and his family crashed outside of Charlotte, North Carolina.

When Hurricane Helene devastated parts of North Carolina, Biffle flew missions in his private helicopter delivering much-needed supplies and saving lives after the disaster.
