HBO’s Stephen King adaptation delivered plenty of Pennywise, but we have some lingering thoughts about what happened and what’s next.
Since its October debut, IT: Welcome to Derry has naturally featured references to Stephen King‘s IT alongside canonically accurate nods to The Shining and The Shawshank Redemption. But does that mean that the HBO show somehow connects with every single Stephen King book?
Last Sunday, Dec. 14, marked the epic conclusion of HBO's " IT: Welcome to Derry ," a prequel that explored Pennywise's origins. Set in the 1960s, the horror-drama showed the evil villain terrorizing the residents of Derry, Maine. With the season coming to an end, many fans are begging for the next installment.
Because Stephen King was involved with IT: Welcome to Derry, the writers could build this link between Bob Gray’s stage life and IT’s favorite monster form, and know it still fit the world he created. Fuchs talked about asking if a choice was “ too bold to swing ” or if King would approve.

The latest eight-part series has just finished airing on Sky and NOW and serves as a prequel to the films. It is set 27 years before the Losers Club forms, and finally offers fans of the story an explanation for why Pennywise, a cosmic entity, chooses to appear as a clown.
