The two Iowa National Guard members killed in a weekend attack that the U.S. military blamed on the Islamic State group in Syria have been identified
The shooting happened during a mission by U.S. and Syrian forces in a historic central town near Palmyra on Saturday. President Trump and U.S. military officials attributed the attack to ISIS.
Syria’s state news agency said two Syrian military personnel were also injured in the attack. Tom Barrack, U.S. ambassador to Turkey and the Trump Administration’s special envoy to Syria, also condemned the attack and paid tribute to the soldiers.
