The Grand Finale is the upcoming film in the historical drama genre. It serves as a sequel to 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era and marks the final installment in the beloved franchise.

But “When Mary finds herself in a public scandal and the family faces financial trouble, the household grapples with the threat of social disgrace. The Crawleys must embrace change with the next generation leading Downton Abbey into the future,” a synopsis of the movie reads.

One notable character absent from the trailer is Maggie Smith ‘s Violet Crawley. The Dowager Countess of Grantham died at the end of 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era, two years before Smith passed away on September 27, 2024, at 89 years old.

Later this year, fans of “ Downton Abbey ” will be able to watch one more story told on the big screen with “ Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale ” coming out in September, and Focus Features has dropped a new trailer spotlighting the return of the Crawleys and their loyal staff.
