Dinah Washington never quite got the acclaim of the "big three" (Ella, Sarah, and Billie), but she absolutely deserves her place on the Mount Rushmore of Jazz female vocalists. Her phrasing and soulfulness are truly second to none, and she could sing any genre (jazz, blues, torch songs, pop). She was a 1986 inductee of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
