The Vinyl Siding Institute recommends folding the bottom of corner posts. The purpose of this is to prevent animals getting in there. Over the years, my preference is to run the J-channel straight through, or if I’m starting with starter strip, to run the flashing straight through as code in my region requires a flashing.
