The new Dietary Guidelines just dropped and they’re a mixed bag. They say they want to lower saturated fat but still promote meat and full-fat dairy—the top sources of saturated fat in the American diet. They recommend low-carb diets for people with chronic conditions. That’s outdated science and it’s dangerous. We’re glad they mention vegetarian and vegan diets, but the language is far too cautious, like it was written by the meat industry. These guidelines need to do better and now is the time
